How to Save All Photos from a Messenger Chat (iPhone & Android)
The family group, the holiday thread, the chat with the grandparents: Messenger quietly collects hundreds of photos, then buries them as the conversation moves on. Here's how to find them, save them, and do something with them.
Step 1: Open the chat's media
Every photo shared in a Messenger conversation sits in one place:
- Open the chat or group.
- Tap the name at the top of the screen.
- Tap View media, files and links. The wording changes slightly between phones and app versions.
You'll see a grid of every photo and video shared in that chat, newest first.
Step 2: Save the photos you want
On iPhone: open a photo, tap the download icon or press and hold the photo, then tap Save. It goes to your Photos app.
On Android: open a photo, tap the three dots or the download icon, then Save. It goes to your gallery, usually in a "Messenger" folder.
There's no "save all" button, so be choosy. A good album needs your favourites, not everything. Our guide on how many photos to put in an album helps you pick a number.
Step 3: Keep the quality high
Chat apps compress photos to save data. Before you print:
- Ask for the originals from whoever took the best shots.
- Skip screenshots and photos that look soft on your screen.
- Check the date: older photos shared in chats are often smaller.
Want the detail? Read will chat photos print well. The advice is the same for Messenger.
Step 4: Put them somewhere they'll last
Photos saved to your phone are safer than photos left in a chat, but they're still one lost phone away from gone. The surest way to keep them is to print them.
With Foreva you can make the album without leaving Messenger:
- Open Foreva in Messenger.
- Give the album a cover title, like "The cousins, summer 2026".
- Send 30–100 photos, a batch at a time or one by one, and type DONE.
- See the full preview in the chat within seconds. Pay only if you love it.
Your 20×20 cm hardcover arrives in 5–7 working days, with free shipping to the EU, EEA and UK.
The bottom line
Tap the chat's name, open View media, and save your favourites. Then send them to Foreva in Messenger, and those photos become a book instead of a scroll.
Frequently asked questions
Where are all the photos in a Messenger chat?
Open the chat, tap the person's or group's name at the top, then tap 'View media, files and links'. Every photo shared in that conversation is collected there in a grid.
Can I save all Messenger photos at once?
Messenger doesn't offer a 'save all' button for a chat. You save photos one at a time from 'View media'. For an album you only need your favourites, usually 30 to 70.
Do photos saved from Messenger lose quality?
Messenger can compress photos when they're sent. For the sharpest prints, ask the person who took them for the originals, and avoid screenshots.
